Install your Joomla website manually via cPanel

You will need your cPanel URL and login details as well as the ftp access. If you don't already have them ask your hosting provider.

Step by step instructions:

Install FTP program

  1. visit http://filezilla-project.org
  2. download / run the filezilla client
  3. Install the software
  4. Open filezilla
  5. Click -> File -> Site manager
  6. Click - > New site
  7. Give the site a name
  8. enter the host name, username and password
  9. Select -> server type -> ftp
  10. Set Login type -> Normal
  11. Click -> connect
  12. Close filezilla

Download joomla files

  1. visit www.joomla.org
  2. Download joomla - Save it to your desktop or some other location you will remember
  3. Unzip the download package
  4. Visit your Control panel using the url
  5. enter your username / password
  6. Click login

Create the database

  1. In your control Panel click on Mysql databases
  2. Enter a name for your database
  3. Click -> Create database
  4. Under add new user add a user name
  5. Enter a password
  6. Click create user
  7. Click go back
  8. Under Add user to Database select a user
  9. Select a database
  10. Click -> Add
  11. Click -> all privileges
  12. Click -> Make changes
  13. Click -> Go back

Upload website files

  1. Open Filezilla
  2. Click -> File -> site manager
  3. Select your site from the -> My sites list
  4. Click -> Connect
  5. In the right hand pane double click -> public_html
  6. In the left hand pane search for the joomla folder you downloaded and unzipped earlier
  7. Select all the files in your joomla folder
  8. Right click and select upload
  9. When complete refresh filezilla to ensure all file have been transferred
  10. Close filezilla

Installing Joomla

  1. Visit your websites domain
  2. Select your language
  3. Click -> Next
  4. Once installation check shows ok click -> Next
  5. Click -> next
  6. Under basic settings select local host
  7. Enter the username, password and database name
  8. Click -> next
  9. Click -> next
  10. Enter a name for your site
  11. Enter the site administrators email
  12. Enter a admin password
  13. Click -> install sample data (optional)
  14. Click -> Next
  15. Open filezilla
  16. Click -> file -> site manager
  17. Select the site from the My sites list
  18. Click -> connect
  19. In the right hand pane find the "installation" folder
  20. Right click and select delete
  21. Visit your website
